Iconology / Iconologia / Iconologie

The title SIPARIO comes from Italian and means ‘curtain’, specifically the curtain that separates the stage from the audience in a theatre. The curtain forms a boundary between two spaces: what is visible to the audience and what remains hidden behind the scenes. It thus becomes a symbol of the visible and the invisible, of revelation and secrecy. When it opens, something appears; when it closes, that same thing disappears from view. SIPARIO therefore also evokes time and movement, since a curtain marks the beginning and end of a performance. It can be associated with the idea of staging, illusion and the representation of reality. The theatre thus becomes a metaphor for life, where everyone can be at once an actor, a spectator and a character. The curtain can also represent a threshold, separating the everyday world from an imaginary one. From this perspective, SIPARIO does not merely refer to a theatrical object, but becomes a metaphor for that which conceals, reveals and transforms our perception. Ultimately, the work can be understood as a moment suspended between two instants: before the curtain rises and after it falls, between what we see and what we imagine lies behind it.
