ETA refers to Eta (η), the seventh letter of the Greek alphabet, whose origins date back to the Phoenician alphabet. The choice of the lower-case letter lends a softer, more intimate and organic quality than the upper-case form Η. Its curved shape can be associated with a gesture, a trace or a movement, rather than a rigid structure. The letter thus becomes a sculptural form capable of evoking the body, life or transformation. Its history also serves as a reminder that a single sign can evolve over time whilst maintaining a continuity with its origins. η can therefore symbolise an identity in flux, caught between permanence and change. The shape of the letter can also be perceived as a passage or an opening, creating a relationship between the interior and the exterior. This approach echoes the work of artists such as Cy Twombly, for whom writing and signs become gestures, traces and visual forms. The choice of a lower-case ‘eta’ thus transforms a letter into a personal symbol, detached from its purely linguistic function. Ultimately, the work can be understood as a reflection on movement, identity, memory and the transformation of a form that traverses time whilst changing its appearance.
